
ISOMES Faculty Serves as Eminent Speaker at FDP on Media Literacy and AI at NIU
The International Studies of Media and Entertainment Studies (ISOMES) proudly shares the academic achievement of its faculty member Apoorva Nawaz, Assistant Professor, who was invited as an eminent resource person for a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Advancing Media Literacy and Sustainable Development Education: Preparing Teachers for the Emerging AI Era.” The FDP was hosted by the School of Journalism & Mass Communication and the School of Education, Noida International University (NIU).
During her session, Apoorva Nawaz delivered a comprehensive and insightful lecture focusing on the ethical questions surrounding the use of Artificial Intelligence in media and education. A major highlight of her talk was the emphasis on the Human-in-the-Loop framework, stressing that while AI tools can enhance productivity and decision-making, human oversight, ethical responsibility, and editorial judgment must always remain central.

The session featured engaging global and national case studies showcasing responsible AI adoption in media organizations. These included:
- Pulitzer Prize–winning journalism initiatives leveraging AI,
- The Taiwan newsroom model integrating AI for editorial efficiency,
- Press Trust of India (PTI) and its use of AI-driven infographics, and
- A detailed case study of The Scroll, demonstrating how the organization addressed newsroom challenges and pain points through AI integration in daily workflows.
These real-world examples provided participants with valuable insights into how AI can be effectively and ethically embedded into journalistic practices.

The final segment of the session was highly interactive, offering participants hands-on experience with Google Notebook LM, enabling them to explore AI-assisted research, content organization, and knowledge synthesis. The practical exposure was particularly appreciated by the participants and added immense value to the FDP.
Overall, the session was highly enriching and impactful, equipping educators and researchers with both conceptual clarity and practical tools to navigate the evolving AI-driven media landscape.

Apoorva Nawaz has been associated with ISOMES as an Assistant Professor for over two years and was earlier connected with the institution as a Guest Faculty. With her core expertise in Artificial Intelligence, she is also an active participant of the Google News Initiative (GNI) India cohort and serves as an AI Trainer, contributing to capacity building initiatives across India.
