ISOMITES Explore the beauty of Kashmir

We all had been hearing stories of the natural beauty of Kashmir since long but we could relish the out of the world experience only during the tour of this Paradise on Earth. The cherished moment came when the contingent of the students and the teachers of ISOMES went on an excursion of Srinagar, Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Pehalgam in the month of November, 2012.

The moment we arrived in Kashmir, we could realize why the place is called Mini Switzerland. The main purpose of the trip was to give the students practical exposure and enhance their knowledge beyond classroom training, and so the students decided to preserve every moment in their mind and heart.

Our first stop was Srinagar. On the very first morning, after having our breakfast, we took Shikara rides  and  visited the Floating Garden, Lotus garden, Char Chinar and the  local market situated  on water. Amidst its beauty the students did anchoring practice and interviewed the tourists for the travelogue. We also enjoyed water skiing. We had our lunch in a restaurant and then visited the famous Mughal Garden and Chashme  Shahi. We were tired after a long journey and local sightseeing, so we decided to call it a day.

Next morning we proceeded for the day long tour to Sonmarg to see the snow capped mountains. Sonmarg is 76 km. from Srinagar. It had sheer scenic splendor. Onwards the valley opens to a meadow. Sonmarg’s importance lies in the fact that it is the last halt on the Kashmir side for the drive from Srinagar to Leh. The most enchanting part of this trip was that we enjoyed the local cuisines of Kashmir. Some of us enjoyed the taste of Goshtaba. We spent the whole day in Sonmarg and returned to Srinagar at dusk.

The next day we split into two groups. The first group decided to stay at Srinagr and explore its various places of interests. They visited Shakaracharya Temple, Jama Masjid, Akabar Fort , Kashmir University , Laal  Chouk and the local market of Srinagar. The second group went to see the natural beauty of Gulmarg. It is 46 km. from Srinagar. After reaching Gulmarg we took ropeway and went to snow point and enjoyed snow skiing, mount biking and other snow sports. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. By evening we came back to Srinagar. The evening was filled with entertainment. Everyone enjoyed DJ night and a gala dinner.

The first three days of our tour we spent on the Houseboats at Dal Lake. It was a thrilling experience to enjoy in a wooden house with all modern amenities, though later we moved to a hotel. Next day we moved towards Pehalgam which was 135 km. from Srinagar. It was a unique experience to enjoy zero degree temperature. The journey to Kashmir valley and Mini Switzerland on the Horse back was an experience to remember.  Besides the exotic locations of Pehalgam, we also visited the local market and other places of interests.

It was the last day of the educational tour. After having our breakfast at 9 am we started our backward journey to Jammu for our way back to Delhi. It was a journey that will always live in our memory for years to come. Alas! It has been rightly said … “If there is a paradise on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this”.
